Scientific support and research for the ‘Startchancen’ Program
The Startchancen Mathematics Competence Center addresses several core areas of mathematical learning, ranging from foundational number concepts to problem-solving and modeling. Within this broader framework, our subproject focuses specifically on strengthening statistical and data-related competencies as an integral component of mathematical literacy. Because statistics and data reasoning develop cumulatively from the early grades onward, gaps in understanding quickly deepen and limit students’ access to more advanced ideas. Through coordinated development, research, and professional learning, we aim to enhance students’ statistical foundations, support effective classroom practices, and contribute to the center’s overarching goal of improving mathematical proficiency for all learners.
