Abstract
This talk introduces a cognitive process framework for interpreting student-tool interactions in digital learning environments. Building on knowledge-learning-instruction models, it distinguishes between digital learning opportunities and the cognitive processes activated during their use. Using an example study on learning boxplots with process data and sequence analysis, the talk illustrates how theoretically grounded interpretations of interaction data can explain when and why digital tools foster conceptual understanding.
