Motivated Action in Learning Fractions with Digital Tools

Project management Frank Reinhold
Funded by Daimler and Benz Foundation
Funding period Feb 15, 2021 to Mar 31, 2025

Project goal: Implementation studies reveal positive effects of digital tools on learning outcomes. However, it has not yet been clarified how this positive effect can be explained from a psychological perspective. The project addresses this issue and investigates the effect of digitally supported learning settings on how students initiate and carry out learning activities in the context of fractions. Specifically, the motivational-emotional engagement of students and its effect on learning success will be examined and compared to paper-based learning settings.

Acknowledgements: The learning environment used is based on the digital textbook ALICE:fractions, which was developed as part of the ALICE:fractions project, a collaboration between the Chair of Geometry and Visualization at the Faculty of Mathematics and the Heinz Nixdorf-Chair of Mathematics Education at the Technical University of Munich (Hoch, Reinhold, Werner, Reiss, & Richter-Gebert, 2019).
